The historic “Smugglers Track” providing access to Barrenjoey Lighthouse was in a poor state but after TTMS brought the track up to standard, it will now survive for many more years the impact of hundreds of thousands of tourist’s feet each year.

This historic track had many stone steps that needed replacing with steps complying with modern design standards yet were sympathetic to the heritage values of the Barrenjoey headland. Over 200 dimension cut sandstone steps with “convict finish” (a hand pecked appearance to replicate convict hewn sandstone steps) were helicoptered onto the track and installed with accompanying drains, retaining walls and paving.
